🚨 Build This Week: Monitor Kubernetes Pods with Prometheus + Alertmanager
Nanoproject PR-AI-01: Build the observability foundation that powers AIOps systems
Namaste Builders,
It’s Week 3 of the RealOps Weekly Nano Projects Series, and this week we’re laying the groundwork for something powerful: AIOps.
Before AI can automate operations, it needs data. And before data becomes actionable, it needs to be collected, observed, and measured.
This week’s project focuses on setting up Kubernetes observability and alerting — the critical first step toward intelligent, automated ops.
🧱 Project: Monitor Kubernetes Pods with Prometheus + Alertmanager
Track: AIOps
Level: Intermediate
Time to Build: ~90 minutes
💡 What You'll Build
Prometheus + Alertmanager running in a local Kubernetes cluster
Alert rules for container restarts, high CPU usage, and OOM kills
Notification channels to route alerts (Slack, logs, etc.)
(Bonus) A Grafana dashboard to visualize metrics
✅ Build Checklist
Install Prometheus + Alertmanager using Helm or manifests
Deploy a sample pod that simulates failure (CPU/memory stress)
Write alerting rules using PromQL
Add Grafana and visualize pod metrics
(Bonus) Route alerts via console logs or Slack webhook
📦 This is your foundation for AIOps. In future projects, we'll build on this with anomaly detection, auto-remediation, and RCA bots.
🧠 Why This Matters for AIOps
Every AIOps system starts with telemetry — the metrics and logs that reflect system health.
This project gives you the stack (Prometheus + Alertmanager) that collects and routes that data, forming the base layer for automation, AI-driven analysis, and self-healing workflows.
🎥 What’s Coming Friday
We’ll publish the full solution walkthrough + GitHub repo by Friday.
Start building now — even if you’re not 100% sure — and complete the project over the weekend using the reference implementation.
🌐 Open to All – Bonus for Members
These projects are free and open to everyone in the RealOps Network.
But RealOps Members also get:
🧠 Weekly project quizzes on campus.schoolofdevops.com
🏅 XP points, badges, and gamified levels
📈 Portfolio tracking + Discord recognition
Build your AIOps foundations. Learn observability. Let it compound.
We’re just getting started.
